South to North is a new project by Aghababa Baghirov. More will be revealed as the journey takes shape. It is cinematic narrative puzzle game about exile, home, and inner conflict
---------------------
South to North is a narrative adventure game exploring displacement, memory, and the search for home. Inspired by the history of my family and set between the Talysh Mountains, Azerbaijan and the far north, the game follows a protagonist whose life has been shaped by exile, separation, and the longing to reconnect with the place he once called home.
The experience unfolds across two interconnected worlds. The first is the physical world, where players explore landscapes, witness the consequences of exile, and build a relationship with the environments they travel through. The second exists within the protagonist's mind. Through his sketches, players enter symbolic, dreamlike spaces where memories, emotions, and fragments of the past take physical form. These abstract environments reveal experiences that cannot be expressed through dialogue alone, allowing players to understand the character's inner world through exploration and interaction.
Rather than relying on combat, South to North uses environmental storytelling, puzzles, and gameplay mechanics to communicate emotional states. The project explores how fear, hope, grief, and resilience shape the way we perceive the world and ourselves.
Blending cinematic storytelling with interactive design, the game asks what it truly means to lose a home—and whether home is a place we return to, or something we carry within us.
