To be a Homo Ludens
2020
Video Game
In Aghababa Baghirov's game installation, we are taken on a journey through the maturation of the human intellect. Using play as a conceptual thread throughout life, Baghirov's work challenges us to participate in increasingly complex puzzles that mirror the growth of a human, considering how play transforms from the home, to the playground, to school and finally work. Much like life, as we age, we are confronted with new realities and our choices decide our future, but more importantly, who we become. Is life itself a game, and if so, how do we win? How do our choices affect the outcome and how do we reconcile the consequences of our actions?
